What You Need To Know About Stump Grinding

Sep 06, 2022

Stump grinding is an essential process that ensures the safety of the area where a tree used to be. Here at All Area Tree Service, we provide stump grinding for homes and businesses throughout the Central Coast. You may be wondering exactly what stump grinding is and if you need it in your garden, so in this blog, we'll run through the answers and everything you need to know about stump grinding.

What is stump grinding?

Stump grinding is the process of getting rid of a tree stump after a tree has been cut down. No matter how low the tree may have been chopped, a tree stump will remain buried deep under the ground and in some cases, may even protrude above it. For safety and aesthetic reasons, it's important that the stump is ground down to below the surface of the terrain.

Some people may opt for the complete removal of the stump and its roots, but this is a more expensive, disruptive and timely procedure, which is why we often recommend stump grinding instead if you're working with a smaller budget.

Why is stump grinding important?

Stump grinding is an important process for many reasons. Mainly, stump grinding ensures that the tree cannot regrow in areas where it is unwanted or could pose a safety issue.

Also, stump grinding removes the tree stump from view, so it helps to make an area look much more aesthetically pleasing whilst creating more usable space in your yard. A stump is also a tripping hazard, so it makes sense to have it ground down. Plus, if a tree stump is left above ground, it is more likely to rot and invite termites or other pests to the area, risking the health of other trees and greenery on your property.

How does stump grinding work?

Stump grinding requires the use of complex machinery that has been designed specifically for this purpose. While this equipment is highly effective at getting the job done, it should only be operated by trained experts.

When you book the
team at All Area Tree Service for stump grinding, we will arrive with all of the correct equipment to carry out the job, including our Vermeer TX60 stump grinder. This can grind any stump no matter its location or size. Depending on the terrain and size of the stump, we will usually stump grind 100mm below ground level but can go down to approximately 350mm if necessary. This process can take as little as 15 minutes or up to 3 hours if the stump is large.

You will be asked if you want to keep the
wood chippings that form during the process - they can be used as mulch, put in a compost bin or we can dispose of them for you. Get in contact with us today to book your stump grinding appointment.
